Touré Kunda: Le Joola, Liaison Ziguinchor-Dakar (10/1/2003) CS / Gadiaga / Senegal Description: Cassette-only benefit album released only in Senegal to support the project "Un Bateau Pour La Casamance". The project was launched by the Touré brothers, Youssou N'Dour, and others, to raise funds for replacement of Le Joola, a ferry boat in the Casamance area of Senegal that wrecked on September 26, 2002, and for the families of the victims. The tragedy took the lives of more than 1,800 people. Touré Kunda also performed several concert dates in support of the project. From Kassoumay: Dans "Joola", le premier des 6 titres, les Touré Kunda chante la solidarité et la nécessité de renforcer la liaison maritime entre Dakar et la région Sud de Casamance. Pour les titres "Joola Bi" et "Joola Bi Héhé" de nombreux invités ont prêté leur voix pour la bonne cause. Two other studio recordings of "É'mma" were released on France 7" and 12" singles (see Touré Kunda :: Singles). The 12" version also appeared on a bonus 12" single included with the UK LP release of Live Paris-Ziguinchor and on the compilation New Africa (see Touré Kunda :: Other Releases). The 7" version also appeared on the compilation Tropic Tonic No. 2 (see Touré Kunda :: Other Releases). "É'mma" was originally recorded for the pre-Celluloid album Mandinka Dong.
